BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - A Beckley woman opened her front door early Thursday morning to find a puppy burned to death inside a box. Captain Tomi Peck says the woman was awakened at 2:35 a-m by repeated ringing of her doorbell and banging on her door.

The woman says she has no known enemies and has no idea why anyone would do this. Peck says the puppy did not belong to the woman and she does not own a dog.

The puppy was burned beyond recognition.

No arrests have been made, but police are looking for a car with a loud exhaust.
