Fatal Accident on Route 119

Two accidents happened within minutes of each other and less than a mile apart. Now, one person is dead, and a family is in the hospital.

First, a tanker truck accident happened just before noon Friday on Route 119 in Boone County. Police say a pickup truck pulled out of Lori Church Road and in front of a tanker truck headed southbound. The tanker hit the truck, killing the driver.

Police say the second accident happened when a pickup truck started to pull out of Camp Creek Road in front of a Chevy Trailblazer carrying a family of five. The driver swerved to miss the truck and hit a guardrail, then crossed into the southbound lanes.

The mother and her small child were thrown from the SUV. The boy was flown to CAMC General. His mother and two brothers were taken to local hospitals. The father was not hurt.

Police say the teenager driving the pickup truck left the scene and was later caught in Danville. She's charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury and failing to yield at an intersection.
