Police say a childcare worker from Jackson county crossed the line. Now Jon Michael Landers is behind bars tonight facing sex charges.
Police say Landers admitted to sexually assaulting a young boy at his home in Ripley, while he was in Landers' care. Landers is a childcare service worker for R.E.M Community Option, Incorporated. It's a private health care service provider that assists with mentally handicapped adults and children. He's charged with 2 counts of first-degree sexual assault.
Here's what Lander's employer had to say about the charges and his arrest. "R.E.M.'s service on behalf of the alleged victim was limited to providing initial training for the caregiver ...and processing the billing for his services. Despite our limited role in this child's care, all of us at R.E.M. were terribly saddened to learn that he was allegedly assaulted by his caregiver.
Right now Landers is not taking care of any children because he's behind bars at the South Central Regional Jail.
