A former northeastern Kentucky nursing home worker arrested for trafficking in prescription drugs has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Tonda Nelson of Greenup agreed last month to accept the prison term in exchange for pleading guilty to six counts each of narcotics theft and second-degree criminal abuse.
Circuit Judge Robert Conley sentenced Nelson Thursday.
She was a former aide at Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Under state sentencing guidelines, Nelson will be eligible to meet with the parole board after she has served 20 percent, or about 15 months, of her sentence.
Nelson was arrested in September 2005 after a probe by the FIVCO Area Drug Enforcement Task Force revealed that she was stealing medications intended for the nursing home's patients and selling them on the black market.
