With West Virginia teachers talking about the possibility of a strike if the legislature only approves a 3.5% pay raise, we pulled the 1990 teacher strike story from our archives.
Back in 1990, teachers asked the governor and legislature for more money. They went on strike on March 7, 1990, starting in the southern part of the state. By the end of the first week, 47 of the state's 55 counties were on strike. This led to rallies, pickets, and even arrests.
The strike ended on March 19, 1990.
