New businesses and new jobs top the list of priorities this year on Kanawha county's economic development plan. On Thursday county commissioners discussed plans to bring growth to the Kanawha Valley. Part of that plan includes developing a shared database to track companies and projects. The county also wants to work with state leaders to develop new tax incentives for companies looking to move to Kanawha County.
"We need a new plan for Kanawha County and West Virginia. We're hoping to have a team with Governor Manchin as the quarterback to bring in new jobs and keep the jobs we got," said Commissioner Kent Carper.
Commissioners also approved a 3%, across the board, pay raise for all of the county employees. That pay raise will cost the county nearly half a million dollars. But commissioners say this increase helps offset the cost of living for its employees
