Keith Morehouse spoke with O. J. Mayo's attorney Michael Woelfel Monday evening and, according to Woefel, documents have been prepared for what is called a Petition for Injunction which, if granted, would allow Mayo to play until the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission can hear an appeal.

Woelfel said the decision whether to file the legal paperwork will be up to O. J. Mayo and his mother and the final decision will come early Tuesday morning.

In the mean time, Mike Hayden, the executive director of the WVSSAC will come to Huntington tomorrow. According to a statement released by Woelfel: "O. J. is looking forward to meeting with Mr. Hayden and explaining the situation." Woefel went on to say: "You have a situation where it is very delicate. You have a young person concerned about his future, concerned about his reputation and sorry we're all in the situation we're in."

Five Huntington teammates were also suspended for allegedly violating rules about coming out of the bench area during a game. Those teammates have asked for a hearing before a circuit judge to appeal the suspension.

When asked to comment if he thought the suspension was fair, Mayo said: "Maybe not, you know, but whatever happens, happens. I'm just here to represent the state of West Virginia and the city of Huntington."

Huntington High is scheduled to play Artesia Tuesday night a Duke University in North Carolina. Stay tuned to WSAZ NewsChannel 3 and WSAZ.com for the latest on this developing story.
