WEB EXTRA: follow our previous coverage of this previous election:

GRAYSON, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A number of voters in eastern Kentucky have gone to the polls Tuesday in a hotly contested special election.

Up for election is the 18h District seat in the Kentucky Senate. Charlie Borders vacated the seat earlier this year to take a job with Kentucky Public Service Commission.

Running for the seat are Republican Jack Ditty, Democrat and State Rep. Robin Webb and Independent Guy Gibbons.

Polls were open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The voting is taking place in Carter, Greenup, Lewis, Bracken, Mason and Robertson counties.

Most election officials expect a turnout somewhere between 12 and 20 percent.

Greenup County Clerk Pat Hieneman said Tuesday that turnout has
been light. She predicted about 20 percent of eligible voters will
cast ballots.

I live in Carter County. I agree with those that said to leave Robin's kids out of it. I don't know the children but it was not them running the campaign. It seems that there are those out there that are jealous of the fact that Robin was born to a family that had worked hard to establish a comfortable living...isn't that really what we all want? She earned her law degree and Ditty earned his medical degree. Ditty is by no means a poor man! They both played by the messy political rules that our society has established. If Ditty had won, we would have seen more posts here slandering him for winning...it's always the sore losers that come out of the woodwork when the campaign is over. And, for the record, Carter County is just like any other place, there are good and bad people everywhere. Life and where you live are what you make it...quit whinning and try to make wherever you are a better place! Then, write to Robin and tell her what you expect from her as your Senator!
