The water is coming back on for many families in Kanawha and Putnam counties, however a boil water advisory is still in effect.

West Virginia American Water has issued a boil water advisory for customers in Dunbar, Institute, Nitro, Poca, Cross Lanes, Raymond City, Hometown, Bancroft, Eleanor, Winfield, Buffalo, and west of St. Albans from Coal River Road To Amandaville.

West Virginia Amercian water says the water is okay for bathing and household use but not drinking.

Customers are asked to boil their drinking water until further notice. The company says it due to issues with a planned repair on a 36” main.

Crews making those repairs have hit a gas line creating more problems.
Folks living in Dunbar Towers or those work in a nearby business are being urged to leave the area if they feel sick from the strong smell of gas in the area.

The company says it plans to update the situation throughout the morning.
