PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Immigration officials are in the process of deporting three people in connection with an incident in Wheelersburg, Ohio last Saturday night.

It is an incident that has generated numerous phone call and e-mails of concern, according to the Scioto County Sheriff.

On Friday, Marty Donini sent out news release explaining what happened to ease some fears.

The Sheriff says that around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, his office received a call about an accident that occurred on State Rt. 522 and continued onto the parking lot of a business in Wheelersburg.

The caller stated that a group of males were following them and making threats at the time of the accident.

As the deputy pulled onto the parking lot ,two of the four males began to walk away from the vehicles.

The deputy ordered both men to stop and they did. As they were complying with the order, the officer heard a "clunk" sound.

In that area, the deputy found a loaded gun in a cubby hole near a pop machine. Inside one of the vehicles, officers found ammunition matching the ammunition in the gun.

Sheriff Donini says there was no evidence or witness statements that the weapon had been fired as indicated in the e-mails being circulated.

Donini also says the gun was not warm or hot to the touch, there were no bottles of alcohol pulled out of the vehicle, and the men were not employees of a Wheelersburg business as stated in the numerous e-mails being circulated.

Four people were arrested:

  • Samuel Diego, 18, charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Alberto Martinez ,22, charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Olan Mendoza, 26, charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Sebastian Velasc, 24, charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle under the influence.

On Tuesday, the US Immigration officials picked up Diego, Martinez, and Mendoza for deportation.

Sheriff Donini says the incident has been resolved to the fullest extent of the law.

First of all my i hope that the family that went thru this is ok. I am a father of three girls and would do anything to protect them at all times. I know that the men who did the crime were wrong and should pay with jail time. other then that there is no need to blow this drama out of proportion. no business should have to suffer do to the cause of some bad employees. what if an american or african american worked at apple bees and comitted this crime. would every one here who took there time to write would stop going to apple bees of course not. My thing is every one or who ever commits a crime is responsible for there own actions and not the business. plus just for the record all the toro locos are not owned by the same person they are indipendently owned. just like many other businesses in this town mc donalds, wendys, sub way. so my thing is do your research right before been a judge to this business named toro loco.

Illegals make at least as much as I do. My after taxes pay check isn't any more than their under the table cash pay. That's why they can have cars, trucks, tvs, booze, drugs, and guns. Who is really getting cheated here? Legal low income citizens. We can't afford health insurance and we don't qualify for welfare. We just pay our taxes, stay out of trouble, and thank God for our blessings. And these illegals are taking that away by taking our jobs. Why is it that most illegals are men between 20 and 30? IF they send money back to Mexico, WHO do you think they are sending it to?? And if they don't, why do you think they are here? Because with all our problems, we are the best country in the world and we are just across the border. If we don't stop illegals, we will be just like Mexico and then we will be crossing the border into Canada.

third-eye, methinks thou must purchase yon history books. "during the inception of slavery" when was that exactly? Can I have a date? Perhaps a significant historical reference? If you think it began in the U.S., you're an idiot. Does the name Moses ring a bell? Egypt? Slavery? Jews? Slavery may have begun in Africa, perhaps the Mediterranean with the Greeks, perhaps before. BTW, whites didn't hunt the jungles of Africa for slaves, the ships pulled up and their chiefs loaded them up. It was, and in many places still is an acceptable practice in their society. And it hasn't ended. Today's American slaves are those who are preyed upon by illegitimate business owners circumventing wage laws and taxes. Illegal immigrants work for less than minimum wage, often in horrific conditions without the benefits of OSHA. The problem with illegal immigration goes far beyond the "they're taking our jobs". It's an epidemic. Boycotting businesses with these hiring practices is our duty.
