Governor Ernie Fletcher is asking Kentucky lawmakers to approve the vaccine for H.P.V. which is a disease which can lead to cervical cancer.
That was one of the big elements of Fletcher's State of the Commonwealth address Tuesday night.
He is asking for state funding to provide the vaccine to middle school girls.
The vaccine prevents a sexually transmitted disease that leads to the cancer.
Governor Fletcher called for an increase in spending of $250 million.
He says it would be part of the $400 million the state currently has in surplus.
Lawmakers returned to Frankfort Tuesday for the restart of an election year legislative session.
