Residents of Russell, Bellefonte, Raceland and Flatwoods, Kentucky are being asked to conserve water after a water pump failure and a series of resulting water line breaks has dropped the level in the city's water storage tanks to a very low level.
A power failure Tuesday night shut down the pump the city of Russell uses to draw its water supply from the Ohio River. Russell supplies water to the cities of Raceland, Bellefonte and Flatwoods. The pump failure combines with the extreme temperatures over the last several days caused numerous breaks throughout the city's water supply lines.
Workers finished up repairing the lines Wednesday evening and, according to city officials, the tanks should refill back to normal levels within a few days -- barring more leaks.
