JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Teenagers who commit minor crimes in Jackson County, won't be tried in front of their peers anytime soon.

Jackson County Commissioners have tabled the idea of starting a new teen court.

The court was supposed to be a joint effort for Jackson, Roane, Mason, and Calhoun counties, but Jackson wants to wait a little longer on the project.

Roane, Mason and Calhoun are still moving forward with their plans. The court will only have one director, but separate county courts.

Jackson County Commissioners are planning to revisit the idea in a couple of months.

As ridiculous as it may sound, there may be some guidelines set up to make this work. Since all minor crimes are stricken from a juveniles record when they turn 18 there would be no lifelong affects from a bad verdict. And our government never said we have the right to be tried by adults, seniors, or anyone else. They said we have a right to a fair trial in front of a jury of our peers. And its not like the jury decides the sentence or fines in a minor offense trial anyway, the judge does. And if I remember right, you still need 8 years of law school and several years in the field to get that job. It would also give kids a chance to see how screwed up our justice system really is, and could just make a few of them decide to try to do something about it. I dont see the harm in it, in fact, I can see some good coming from this.

This is ridiculous! How are we going to let kids judge kids? The laws in this country are based on being an adult (18 years of age or older). The federal law says that kids don't become an adult until they are 18. They don't have the right to have a trial with non adults as a jury. This is just one more step in the wrong direction of giving kids the power to do what ever they want to, just like spanking your child for doing wrong is child abuse (wrong). How are kids going to make an adult decision about another kids life? Would you like this for your kid? If they are going to be tried as an adult then adults then the whole jury should be adults (18 to how ever old they are). WAKE UP PEOPLE.

Agree with Tim. Don't think parents would want this for their teens! This may cause serious problems among teens because gossip spreads fast between friends, boyfriends and girlfriends. Then you would have families talking spreading gossip to friends and neighbors. More school and neighborhood fights and problems.
