It's a place people count on to find peace and calm, but all some folks in Roane County found at their church was red hot flames and a whole lot of smoke.
It wasn't easy for any of the parishoners to stand around Thursday night and watch their church burn to the ground. However, everyone there will tell you that the People's Baptist Church is made up of just that: the people.
One thing that was salvaged: Bibles. Their red covers stand out against the black ash from the fire.
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal is investigating how the fire could have started, but the pastor of the church says they will likely never know.
