Neighborhood Terrorized by Gunfire

Imagine being in your home and realizing gunshots are coming inside….not just once -- but twice.

That's exactly what happened to people who live in one trailer park in Kanawha County. It happened on West Washington Street just outside the Charleston city limits.

Jack Russell says, “I heard pop pop pop and then I heard you know the wood crunch and hit the side of my dishwasher….. I'm sort of self reliant, felt I could protect myself being outside the city limits, but there's nothing you can do when bullets start flying through your house and you’re lying in bed.”

Jack's grandchildren live in the trailer just behind him. Two of them are babies, just 4 weeks old. And he feared that if his metal dishwasher had not been in the path of that bullet to stop it, their home is exactly where the bullet would have ended up.

That happened overnight. Then in broad daylight...more shots were fired, this time with plenty of kids around. No one was hurt.

As one resident says, “Lucky, big time lucky, especially no kids getting hurt.”

Some residents are so afraid of another repeat; they're taking their kids away from the area --to a safer place.

Neighbors say the shooters are targeting one individual who lives in the neighborhood: a man who's about to go on trial for arson. The Sheriff's Department is still investigating. So far, no one's been arrested.
