Police say a man from St. Albans maliciously beat to death his three month old son. Joseph Edwin Dawson III is charged with "child abuse by parent, guardian, or custodian resulting in death." He turned himself in to St. Albans Police Friday night.

In a news release from the St. Albans Police Department, officers say an ambulance was called to an apartment on February 27th for a child not breathing. Paramedics rushed the child to Thomas Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say an autopsy showed that the infant died after he was assaulted -- and investigators believe it happened while he was under his father's care.

According to the criminal complaint, Dawson "did maliciously inflict substantial physical pain, illnes, or impairment of physical condition upon Dillon Dawson." Dillon was Dawson's son.

Dillon was buried Friday morning. Dawson is currently being held in the South Central Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.
