Delegate Ron Thompson says he is ready to return to the Legislature after a nearly yearlong absence. Thompson says he plans to take his oath of office this week.

Thompson has been missing from the state Capitol since the 2006
legislative session ended in March. The Raleigh County Democrat
told The Register-Herald that a prolonged struggle with bipolar
depression was the cause of his prolonged absence from state
government.

The legislative session ends Saturday. Despite his absence,
Thompson says he plans to vote on legislation during the session's
final week. He says he has always voted according to what his
constituents in the 27th District want. The district also includes
part of Summers County.

Thompson also is bracing for a media frenzy when he resumes his
duties. He says that's something he will have to face and he's
going to face it.
