CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Members of the Health Care for America Now (HCAN) rallied in Charleston on Tuesday.
The group wanted to applaud West Virginia Senator Jay Rockefeller for his valiant efforts for Real Health Reform.
"I think all too much we don't say thanks to the people that do the heavy lifting and get things done," said Perry Bryant, Executive Director of West Virginians for Affordable Health Care.
After the rally, the group marched up Washington Street to CAMC General to set up a mock crime scene with signs, personal stories, crime scene tape and chalk. The message they are trying to get across is that it's a crime to deny health care to anyone.
Members of the West Virginia Nurses Association also spoke out about some of the problems they've witnessed with the health care industry.
"We have elderly people who have to decide to buy medications or pay heating bills," said Beth Baldwin, President. " I have families call me all the time to say is this a medicine we have to have because I don't know if we can afford it."
Senator Jay Rockefeller has been a big proponent of the President's health care plan. He wants to make sure that the public option is included in the plan. It would help provide health care for everyone.

i know people need healthcare but has the govt ever done anything right?social security, housing, welfare, cash for clunkers, amtrak, do i need to go on?!!! sure we need alot right now but its because of the govt we are unemployed.european socialism, fascism, whatever you want to call it ,it doesnt work..and sen rockefeller is right in the middle. do you remember when we had the right to do anything without the govt controlling it? too bad huh? lets give them more control, that will help right?
We need NO national health care legislation. Just need to reverse bad decision made years ago that regulated health insurance. Take away all the federal and state imposed rules for insurers and you will see competition which will deliver affordable pricing to acquire health insurance. The rules the states and feds have is what drives the cost of the coverage. Lets people define their coverage without rules... And, for those who voted for this administration - live with what you did for the rest of us...
As a family who has three jobs between the parents, no extras and I pay upward of $400 just in private Medical insurance(not including deductables, co-pays and care not covered by my private insurance) a month I still cannot afford to go to the doctor to get the treatment I need and we have above average paying jobs. Again we run a tight ship so there is no frivolous spending here. However, my Aunt in Concord Canada and two friends in Europe (one near Liverpool and one in France) have had children, one heart surgery, monthly meds (birth control and blood pressure meds), a child w/a broken bone and several other well care visits and emergency room visits (and several home visits) and they pay nothing for this care. I think like our education system Health Care should be a right and ran by the government. Will it be perfect, no! But just ask those Canadians and French if they want to get rid of it and they'll tell you absolutely not!
