Sheriff's deputies in Cabell County are pushing for more pay and they're getting their information out on picket signs.

Deputies began an informational picket Monday morning in front of the courthouse.

They say deputies make at least $8,000 less than most of their peers in other local police departments.

The county commission currently has no plans to include a pay raise in next year's budget.

Commissioners have said the high cost of paying for the regional jail makes a pay raise unlikely.

Doug Adams of the Cabell County Sheriff's Department, said, "We keep hearing the jail bill, the jail bill and before the jail bill, it was other excuses and we just want equalization of pay compared to officers throughout Cabell County."

Deputies are picketing during off duty hours and will remain on the job.

The county commission's budget proposal is expected to be finished by Thursday.
