They're making memories and history in Elliott County, Kentucky!
The Lions have earned their first every trip to Rupp Arena after pouncing on Ashland, Thursday night, with a final score of 85-69.
The boy's basketball team is the talk of the town in Sandy Hook. When the lions roar in this county, it's not the same noise the king of the jungle makes, it's the chants and cheers of the fans every time the ball makes it through the basket.
Sophomore Ethan Faulkner says, "We played in a lot of tournaments, as a team, as individuals, and won a lot of championships! There's been nothing like this. This is the sweetest one!"
Sweet because this victory sends Elliott County to the state's "Sweet 16" for the very first time. Ethan's twin brother, Evan, is also a player on the team. He said the brothers did everything but sleep, Thursday night. "I couldn't make myself go to sleep." Evan said, "I mean, I had so much adrenalin pumping, I just kept going over the game and through my mind, it was unbelievable."
The Elliott County Lions will play 15th Region champ Shelby Valley, in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday, March 22nd, at 6:30 pm.
