HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A purse snatching ends in a stabbing inside a bathroom at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Huntington Police say they were called to hospital about 5:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The police report say the stabbing happened inside a public bathroom in the ICU waiting area. Officers arrested James Micheal Burd, 32, of Huntington.
According to both police and hospital reports, the victim said that his sister was sleeping in an ICU waiting area when Burd stole her purse.
When he confronted Burd in a bathroom, a fight ensued and that Burd stabbed him in the left leg and lower back with an 8-10” straight blade knife.
The report says that the victim was then able to disarm and subdue Burd until security guards arrived.
The victim, Kenneth Spears of Huntington, was treated and released. .
Police say Burd tried to escape from police custody as he got out of a cruiser at police headquarters. He was quickly caught in an alley near the station.
The police report, then indicates that Burd tried to hang himself by taking off his shirt and tying it around a cell bar inside a holding cell at police headquarters. Officers quickly cut him down.
Burd has been charged with malicious wounding, attempted escape and a parole violation.

To PJ. I agree with you to an extent. What if the victim was smaller and didn't stop the attacker. Or maybe stabbed a vital organ and the man bled out. I'm not taking that risk. The constitution also says we have the right to protect ourselves and our loved ones. This town isn't what it was when I was a kid. People will rob or kill you for drugs these days and I will not be a victim. The police can't be everywhere at all times to protect us. If anyone tries to hurt me, or my wife and kids, I won't hesitate for a second to put them down and I won't lose a minutes sleep over it either. It's you or him.
to all people his mother will plead his case whine a little, the judge wil smack his hand he will do it again, so get out your guns so when robs you,e mommy will have bury him this time
Jailburd ah hahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahaa Now that is funny!!And then you have simple Jack on here calling someone DUMM<---AWESOME!!
