UPDATE @ 1:50pm
QUARRIER, W.Va. (AP) -- Eight activists with Climate Ground Zero have been arrested in a mountaintop removal mining protest near Quarrier.
State Police Sgt. K.G. McCord says the protesters, whose names and ages were not immediately available, are being charged with trespassing, obstruction and conspiracy.
They were to appear before a Kanawha County magistrate sometime Thursday.
McCord says the protesters had chained themselves together and were lying across a hauling road, but the coal company rerouted its trucks.
He says there was no disruption to the operation.
The protesters had also unfurled two banners demanding an end to the efficient but destructive form of strip mining.
The protesters were on private property, but it's unclear which coal company owns the land.

this same thing was funded years ago, remember prayer in schools? there is a effort to cripple this country .how long we heard about foreign oil and all that and whats been done about it ? we cant drill on American soil, cant mine coal, on and on.better get off your behinds and start our own protests
Exactly where do these people work? I would love to have jobs like they have, that allows them to be off for days or weeks at a time, so they can sit in trees or lay across roadways....But if the truth be told, they don't work, and depend on government hand outs made possible by the hard working, tax paying miners they are trying to put out of a job!!!!! They should have to live in freaking trees.
I would be willing to bet 6 of the 8 are not even from WV. Just like the 2 goofballs from Climate Ground Zero who stayed in the trees for several days, they weren't even from around here...go back home tree huggers. Protest something in your own state and leave us alone. Coal keeps the lights on.
