BELLE, W.Va. (AP) - A police officer in Belle is on administrative leave today after being accused of giving a woman a black eye.
Thirty-seven-year-old Darrick Cox of South Charleston is charged with domestic battery. Police say he struck the woman in the face at about 3 a-m Tuesday.
Belle Police Chief Robert Sizemore would not comment on the incident. He would only say that Cox is a good officer.
Cox has been a Belle police officer for about two years, and has seven years of experience in law enforcement.
Mayor Larry Conley says Cox will remain on leave until the investigation is complete. Until then, he says the department's three other officers will have to work some overtime hours.
