CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- All political parties have a lot of pride but Saturday was the night members of West Virginia's Democratic Party stepped into the spotlight.
Congressman Nick Rahall, Senator Jay Rockefeller and Governor Joe Manchin were among those in attendance at the Charleston Civic Center Saturday night.
But it's not just about honoring those who are statewide household names in the Democratic Party. It's also a chance to recognize the parties unsung heroes from their respective counties.
Barbara Harmon-Schamberger was this years outstanding Democrat from Clay County.
"It is a highlight for all democrats everywhere to come to the Jefferson Jackson Dinner, but to come as a democrat of the year is very special."
The special guest speaker was governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana.
Other speakers have included in 2006 a senator from Illinois, now President Barack Obama.
Former President Bill Clinton has also addressed the crowd.
