New Life Center Church Starts Fresh

It's been more than a month since a fire destroyed the New Life Center Church in eastern Kanawha County. On Easter Sunday, the church announced it has some new plans in the works.

On that day, they could have given up after a fire left them without their church.

With their faith stronger than ever, the Sunday after the fire, they were back in service. This time, it was in their youth center, as they put their pain into prayers.

Right beside the youth center is their soon to be new church home. It's a rebirth that Pastor Lewis waited until Easter to tell his congregation.

“Easter is known for resurrection and new life and out of these ashes and out of the flames this church suffered, we are seeing the resurrection that God is giving us,” said Lewis.

It’s a church whose mission is to change the Cedar Grove community. Back in October, the church angered some people, after members started a petition to make the town dry.

“Many churches kind of want to be quiet, but let's talk about the issues and bring them out in the open and meet the needs those people have,” said Lewis.

It’s a church saying goodbye to its past and now looking ahead to what will be.

Work on their new church will begin in a few weeks. It will seat more than 200 people. That's more than double the amount of their last church.
