BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Five West Virginia Police Departments received AAA’s Platinum Community Traffic Safety Awards for their safety efforts during a luncheon on Friday.
Platinum awards were given to the Ceredo, Huntington and Point Pleasant Police Departments, and the West Virginia State Police posts in Huntington and Ripley.
Gold Awards, the second highest recognition to be given, were awarded to Barboursville, Hurricane and Milton Police departments and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.
Silver Awards were given to New Haven and Sistersville Police Departments and sheriff’s departments in Cabell and Mineral counties.
Bronze Awards were given to Kenova and Ravenswood Police Departments.
The departments were among hundreds nationwide that participated in the Community Traffic Safety Program.
"We are very proud of the departments for their achievement and participation in the Community Traffic Safety Program," said J.J. Miller, AAA Safety Advisor. "They went above and beyond the call of duty by organizing projects which would make their community a safer place for motorists as well as local residents."
To be eligible for the annual awards, a community must conduct traffic safety promotions and educate the public on safety topics.

HOW IN THE WORLD DOES NEW HAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT GET AN AWARD? THEY ARE NEVER IN NEW HAVEN. THEY ONLY HAVE ONE OFFICER WORKING AND HE IS SCARED OF THE DARK APPARENTLY, BECAUSE HE ONLY WORKS DAYSHIFT. I CALLED FOR THE NEW HAVEN POLICE HALLOWEEN NIGHT AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE WORKING. THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT HAD TO COME TO MY HOUSE.... WHERE DOES OUR POLICE FEE GO THAT WE THE CITIZENS PAY EVERY MONTH? APPARENTLY NOT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL BAND TOGETHER AND REFUSE TO PAY THE FEE. MY UNDERSTANDING WAS THAT UPON PAYING THE FEE THE CITIZENS WOULD HAVE A POLICE OFFICER PROTECTING THE TOWN 24 HOURS A DAY SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. GUESS I WAS WRONG.
what a bunch of bull. these guys have done nothing but bull people around. 3/4 of them need to be locked up themselfs.
