April Showers Bring, Well You Know!

Hump Day is Rain Day

Looks like the kids on Easter Break will have to find some indoor fun to keep them occupied on Wednesday as a soaking rain storm heads our way from the land of the muddy Mississip! That’s slang for Mississippi River, the stomping grounds for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, and it’s an area which can breed our flooding rains in spring.

But in this case, the ground is relatively dry after a cold Easter weekend, so aggregate rainfalls will average .5”-1”, just what the landscape doctor ordered for your freshly seeded lawn. As for high water, I do not expect more than some nuisance street flooding as storm culverts back up in the heavier downpours.

Looks like gusty winds will accompany especially the nighttime rains, so it will take a sturdy umbrella to combat the rains for evening church goers. The soaking rains will taper to lighter showers by Thursday, though a brisk west wind will assure a cool and damp start to the day.

By the way, the pattern is set for the next 3 weeks. A healthy rain storm every 2 or 3 days so I expect April rains to be above normal. This will quell the spring brush fire season, delay plowing and planting on the farm and eventually lead to a threat of river flooding. April brides beware of outdoor receptions though May weddings will feature breathtaking floral bouquets thanks to all the rain!!

The next rain storm is due in by the weekend when thunderstorms with high winds and hail will be possible. TOO SOON TO PINPOINT WHEN AND WHERE. Then watch for a possible heavy wet snowstorm in the mountains of West Virginia by late Sunday and Monday.

But for Wednesday, it’s a wet day, so kids the action movie 300 Spartans will keep you entertained and Construction workers getting a half day’s pay will be about the best you can do. That’s because the rains will be light and misty early on, but more showery and even thundery by afternoon and night.
