HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Marshall University is planning a memorial service for the 75 victims of the 1970 plane crash that killed most of the school's football team.
The service will be held at noon on Nov. 14 at the Memorial Student Center plaza on campus, a few hours before the Thundering Herd's game against Southern Mississippi.
Joe Gillette will be the keynote speaker. The 1973 Marshall graduate would have been with the team had it not been for a shoulder injury.
After a wreath is laid at the Memorial Fountain, the fountain will not run again until spring.
The crash killed players, coaches, staff, supporters and the flight crew. It was the subject of the 2006 film "We Are Marshall."
