CLAY, W.Va. (AP) - The phones are working again in Clay, Roane and Nicholas counties after being out for most of the day Tuesday because of a fire that damaged phone lines.
Clay County Emergency Services Director Pat Beets says the majority of the lines were operational by midnight Tuesday night and the rest came online soon after that.
About a fourth of Clay County and small areas in Roane and Nicholas counties were affected. That was over five-thousand Frontier phone company customers.
The fire broke out in a downtown Clay house a little before 3 a-m yesterday. It damaged several fiber and copper cables going into the Frontier phone office there.
A woman was injured in the fire and is being treated at a Pittsburgh hospital. Her condition is not available at this time.
