CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Thirteen schools are taking part in the "Take a Veteran to School Day" event.
According to a news release, the program provides students and educators first-hand accounts of their experiences, while students from Concord University will record the veterans' stories for submission in the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project.
The program runs through November 19, coinciding with the Veterans Day holiday.
Students at Capital High School in Charleston got a rare opportunity Monday to sit down with some local veterans and talk about their very personal wartime experiences.
According to a news release, the West Virginia Take a Veteran to School Day program is part of a national effort by the HISTORY channel to teach today's young adults about the sacrifice and valor of our nation's veterans.
