CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Football and Thanksgiving are generally top of mind for folks during the month of November.
But there are about 4,000 children in West Virginia who want you to remember November is National Adoption Awareness month.
Saturday, many of those children had the opportunity to explore the Clay Center in downtown Charleston as a part of an event to raise awareness about the continued need for loving homes.
The event was put together by a number of organizations that help with the adoption and foster parenting process.
Advocates for these children say the ultimate gift for them this holiday season would be a place to call home.

I think adoption is an amazing thing. And I also believe that owning/running a Foster Home is an amazing thing. These children have NOONE else to hold, care for, raise, laugh, and love them. Not ALL families that adopt have issues conceiving a child on their own, so to adopt to help, is probably one of the nicest, most genuine gestures on earth. And for Anonymous Nov. 22 @ 1:52PM. Think about all the families that are on Welfare, or receive any help from the State, getting a check in the mail is so easy these days, and there are people, like myself, who are single parents, work their hind-ends off to support their child/children, and DO NOT receive help, I could, if I wanted, but I feel better about myself to do it on my own. There are families (Mother and Father) that receive a check, but do not try to do anything to better themselves, and have a better life for their children as well. I personally know people like this. So what if the adoptive parents get a check, they saved a life.
To the person wanting information on where to go to adopt...You can contact your local Department of Health and Human Resources, Children's Home Society, KVC, or Mission WV.
For those who live in the Charleston area and want to foater and/or adopt, you can contact Children's Home Society of WV at 304-345-3894 or 304-391-5201. God Bless!
