Deputy Involved in Crash on Interstate

A Jackson County, WV, sheriff's deputy is recovering at home after a tractor trailer slammed into his cruiser on I-77 Wednesday morning.

It happened in the northbound lanes at the 143 mile marker--that's between the Ripley and Ravenswood exits.

Police tell us the deputy, A.D. Mick, was parked on the side of the road checking out a car that was apparently broken down, when a tractor trailer ran off the road and slammed into the cruiser.

Mick had to be cut out of his SUV cruiser. He was taken to the hospital. Other deputies told us he appeared to be in shock.

The driver of the truck was cited for failing to maintain control and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

The I-77 north bound lanes were shut down for hours, but one lane is now back open.
