Pay a little now....or get stuck with a big bill later!
That’s the dilemma neighbors in one Kanawha County community are facing when it comes to their fire protection, and not everyone is happy with this choice.
The next time this fire department responds to a call at your house, it could cost you.
Fire dues for the West Side Volunteer Fire Department in Saint Albans are just thirty dollars for each household in the department’s coverage area. Not paying your dues won’t stop your fire service, but it could make your call for help very expensive – as much as five hundred dollars per call. It’s a small investment that could help avoid a bigger bill later.
But not everyone’s willing to pay the dues….especially those who are unhappy with their fire service, saying it should be staffed at all times if they expect residents to pay.
Apparently, some folks out of the service area have also received fire dues forms and they are asking residents to make sure they are actually in the covered area before sending in the payment.
