HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Some local teenagers will learn about the dangers of drinking and driving this week.

The Hurricane Police Department is hosting an alcohol awareness program at Hurricane High School on Monday.

According to a news release, herses will be parked out in front of the school, along with a wrecked car that has a sign that reads, "IT TOOK A FAMILY OF FOUR TO STOP THIS DRUNK DRIVER."

The students will also see a casket inside the school that bears a sign, "RESERVED FOR NEXT DUI VICTIM."

During the program, students will also watch a short video about drinking and driving. Then, they will get into a high tech driving simulator allowing them to feel the effects of driving drunk.

Organizers say they hope this program deters kids from alcohol and keeps them from getting behind the wheel if they decide to consume alcohol.

The program was funded by donations from local businesses and churches.
