To help protect their children from sexual deviants, parents now have access to the online screen names of about 28-hundred convicted sex offenders in West Virginia. Governor Manchin and Cabell County Senator Evan Jenkins announced the new online tool today.
It lists the screen names, user names and aliases of convicted sex offenders.Parents can enter a user's screen name at the State Police's Web site, www.wvstatepolice.com. The online tool will then search a state database of registered sex offenders. If the search turns up a match, a link will appear to direct the user to the specific sex offender's information.Jenkins says sexual predators most often find their prey using Internet chat rooms, instant messages and e-mail.
