WV Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP) - The military is investigating the death of a soldier from West Virginia who was killed in a non-combat incident in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says 20-year-old Army Specialist Daniel F- Mehringer of Morgantown (West Virginia) died Friday at Bagram air base from injuries suffered in the incident.

No details were immediately available today.

Mehringer was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division's Special Troops Battalion out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Mehringer joined the Army in September 2004. He had been with the 82nd Airborne Division since March 2005.

Sergeant First Class Rahn Bass says Mehringer was a paratrooper who loved the adrenaline rush of jumping out of an aircraft.

Mehringer is survived by his wife, Marialies Renee, and his parents.
