The Tank Battle

It's a battle - over a military artifact. The question: who owns a six-ton tank that used to call Nitro home?

Nitro's mayor is ready to battle a local family over the tank's ownership. Mayor Rusty Casto says Nitro's invested thousands of dollars -- and he wants the tank -- or the money back.

All of this goes back to one man who worked to bring history alive for people in Nitro. The late Jack Moody ran a museum in Nitro, and worked to bring the tank to the town in 1987. When he died a couple years ago his estate was divided among his children. They decided to move the tank to a museum in Indiana, but the city of Nitro says the tank was never theirs to move.

Complicating the matter further, a third group is also claiming ownership of the tank. Nitro got the tank from a VFW post in Virginia back in the ‘80s -- and members there now believe the tank should be returned to them.
