Deputies say a train hit a car parked on railroad tracks in Kanawha County this weekend.

It happened at about 2:00am Saturday on Avesta Drive in Jefferson.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department tells us Joseph Hernandex, 25 of St. Albans, drove his car onto the tracks where he said it apparently got stuck.

Deputies say Hernandez removed all of his belongings from the car and started walking home -- without notifying the police.

Later, a train coming through the area hit the car, destroying it. The engineer told deputies he applied the emergency brake, but couldn't stop in time.

Hernandez later told deputies, the train, "blew up" his car. He was charged with illegal parking.
