A well-known educator in the Kanawha Valley has passed away.
John Clendenen died Sunday night after a short battle with cancer.
Clendenen served 30 years as a teacher and administrator in Kanawha County. He was the principal at Capital High School before retiring in 2005.
Clinton Giles, principal at Capital High and assistant principal at the high school under Clendenen, called him "intelligent, generous, and a larger than life man." Giles also says Clendenen was one of the most intelligent people he has ever met.
Visitation is set for Wednesday, May 16 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Morris Memorial Methodist. His funeral is Thursday, May 17 at 2:00pm.
