They know what they're getting into. They read the news, listen the radio and watch TV. They've probably hit every website about Iraq ...and realize it is a very, very dangerous place, but for members of the 478th Engineer battalion in Ashland ... duty calls.
Tonight their community gave them a sendoff... and prayed for a safe return.
It was all very formal. Politicians and other community leaders came out for the ceremony... all undoubtedly with truly good intentions. And those intentions were undoubtedly truly appreciated by members of the 478th Combat Engineering battalion.
But for all the pomp and circumstance, what really matters at a time like this is family.
Members of the unit don't exactly know when they'll be deployed to Iraq.
Until then... they'll be training at a base here in the U.S.
