It's one of the last places you'd expect to have a break in. However, thieves found churches to be fruitful over the weekend.

"They've taken computers, video equipment at that time and then the first time, we think somebody actually hid /inside/ the building," Reverend E.S. Harper of Apostolic Life Cathedral told NewsChannel 3.

Goldie Christian, a member of Reverend Harper's congregation had a break in at her store just down the road at the same time.
"They knocked the glass out of my door," Christian said.

The vandals proved to be equal opportunity thieves by striking the Guyandotte Church of Christ too.

"I think it's a shame that you had to go out and do that, but if you needed help, we would be glad to help you, we're praying for you, and we're praying for those that would do something like this," Reverend Willie Perdee said.

Reverend Harper says they are in the process of installing a security system equipped with video cameras. As of Monday night, they've hired a security guard to stay from sundown to sunup each night.
They estimate the loss to be at least $40,000.

Huntington police say there were two other churches broken into over the holiday weekend.
