Police in Kentucky found an indoor marijuana growing operation, complete with grow lights and timers. It's the latest arrest from the F.A.D.E. task force. Officers arrested Brad Timberlake and charged him with the crime.

The F.A.D.E. drug task force operating out of Greenup County, Kentucky is made up of five officers and they lead the state in prescription drug arrests. The task force alone is responsible for 22 percent of all the prescription drug arrests in Kentucky.

"Reefer Madness: The Musical" is a good summation of how the 1930s propaganda film was used to mislead the public and politicians in order to prohibit a plant. Netflix has it on dvd.

Trey, I feel you, like I said earlier, I use marijuana for medicinal purposes and I have a state ID card, saying that I have permission to obtain, posses and use marijuana in the state of California. I used to be prescribed oxycontin for my pain, but it prevented me from functioning well enough to go to work. And, the oxycontin is addictive with severe withdraws. I have battling with this for sometime now, but the marijuana helps with that as well. I have a torn disk in my lower back and a torn acetabular labrum (ligament) in my hip, and I am always in severe pain, and I have great difficulty in walking, and the marijuana helps with that. Also, these medical conditions make me very depressed, cause I can't go do things that I used to do ( I am only 31), and the marijuana helps with the depression, actually the marijuana eliminates the depression. Also, I have medical bills that are piling up and up, and the medications that I used to take would cost me $509 per month, marijuana costs per month are $120, and the doctor bills that I have cause extreme stress and anxiety, but the marijuana helps with that. I know that I am not the only one suffering from such problems and I bet that there are MILLIONS of people out there that can relate, and I know that marijuana could help most of them as well. But, unfortunately marijuana is illegal for such use in the majority of the country. What a shame!

I'm surprised that those posting comments have not at least partially researched what they write of. In 1937 the U.S. govt first told us what seed we could and could not plant, and what we were allowed to do with the product of that seed. The U.S. govt changed its mind and allowed him for the war effort since it was used in rope making, etc. Then it became partially illegal again in the 50's in connection with a Communist conspiracy to "dope the nation." And finally in the 1960s illegal until present. President Carter campaigned to deciminalize it, but was forced to show a tough stand on drugs when one of his cabinet members was arrested with cocaine. That's your history lesson for the day.

"the truth" from wv is attempting to spread false stats. The largest study of its kind conducted in May of 2006 unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer. The lead researcher was quite surprised since the govt typically uses him to attempt to show marijuana is a danger. The study was conducted by National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Drug Abuse. So the truth is wrong.

If U.S. citizens had sat idle during Prohibition then citizen from ky could not drink his case of beer per day. Fact is, we elect the public officials and they will listen to what we say if it means being voted out of office. People need to research issues for themselves and not follow blindly what the govt tells you. The war on drugs is about as successful as the war in Iraq.

Dear Truth, Faulty tires, human error, alcohol, the weather, deer, squirrels, elk, cattle, all of these things have killed families of four, but we have yet to make these things illegal. Many things can kill, but it is not the marijuana that kills. Guns have killed more families of four than anything else, but it wasn't the guns fault. You should take a look at how you are judging things, cause using one driver that was smoking pot and killed a family, as your argument, is like saying a Pro-Bush voter, killed all those soldiers in Iraq. Is there any proof that that accident would not have happened, if that guy had not tested positive for a joint that he could have smoked over 3 weeks prior. THINK!!

Posted by: mike on Jun 4, 2007 at 02:53 PM
Yes, our opinion does matter!!! WE CAN VOTE!!! And, the last time I looked, other than the Bush election, the majority rules. And, I bet if all of us "Hippies"(as we were called) got to the voting booths, you would see our opinnion does matter. And, in 14 states it is on its way to legalization.

Posted by: Bethany on Jun 4, 2007 at 02:45 PM
If it were legal, I could just see everyone trying to justify smoking it in designated cigarette smoking areas! If everyone is blowed away, who is going to be working and keeping order in this world? Oh, I forgot, not many people have true jobs there in the mountains.

Posted by: Alex on Jun 4, 2007 at 12:58 PM
why, thank you, citizen. I'm pretty sure everyone who has written here is well aware that it's illegal. Also, the comment board is a place to express your opinions if you have yet to notice.

The man said he was dying, the nausea and the pain left him wasting away and unable to keep a meal down. So he tried everything prescription could obtain, but to no avail the side effects were worse then the pain. So now he breaks law to use the one thing that seems to help him out and the people all say, oh he's just gettin' high. Not to change the subject, but didn't you ever wonder why gettin' high's a crime? Yeah a crime!

Posted by: Trey on Jun 4, 2007 at 11:30 AM
Well some say a conspiracy: The petrol, chemical and pulp paper industries combined, to kill the competition. Government hysteria, monopoly, and conflicts of interest with total impunity. Yeah so if you don't buy the conspiracy, just look at the reality that your tax dollars go to spray poison on the fields of a farmer in south america. And as an added bonus, your neighbor might be the proud recipient of that poison weed.

Posted by: Citizen Kane on Jun 4, 2007 at 11:27 AM
Actually "citizen from ky", it is not illegal in Ohio in small amounts (less than 3 1/3 ounces) since it has been decriminalized. You receive a $100 fine just like for a speeding ticket. Just a citation...like jay walking...the way it should be.

Posted by: Trey on Jun 4, 2007 at 11:24 AM
Reefer madness, chronic sadness what is the half life of bad propaganda? Policies fail denied bail you made him a demon now pay for his trip to prison. Hard to promote the status quo, but what is the shelf life of bad legislation? The hypocrite smirks it's a moral disgrace as he reads from the law that was written ...about the same time that he had... his last original thought.

Doesn't matter what your opionion is....it's illegal. Period

Clinton tried it in England, but didn't inhale. Bush obviously did.

Truth, i don't think anyone is condoning driving under the influence. People can drink at home, why not smoke whatever they choice if it doesn't endanger anyone else. Also, your carcinogen theory is incorrect. Science proves otherwise. Nice try though.

Posted by: Ben on Jun 3, 2007 at 11:27 PM
Here's an idea: Let's legalize it and tax on it. Heavens knows our government could use extra money to get us off this treadmill called Iraq.

Posted by: the truth on Jun 3, 2007 at 10:30 PM
it has more carcinogens than tobacco. I wonder how many of you are on state assistance and use my tax dollars because you have complications from smoking it. Get real hippies, it also impares you. All you close to huntington should remember the family of four who were killed on interstate 64 by a man who plead guilty of being under the influence of marijuana. So when you quote your stats please keep that family in your prayers!

The guy wasn't harming anyone. I don't see why he couldn't grow a few plants to use on his own. The govt should legalize it, and then tax it. Maybe it would save us the $1 billion per year they spend to try to stop it. Cannabis was here before the U.S. and it will be after.

Posted by: Sensi on Jun 3, 2007 at 07:46 PM
Mike, Cali has the right idea. States rights didn't end with the Civil War, though our govt wishes it did. When will the rest of the country side with reason and quit making the pharmaceutical companies rich? Maybe when the govt doesn't have their hand in the cookie jar as well.

Twelve states have decriminalized pot, including Ohio, and violent crime (or any other) has not increased. The U.S. govt forced their will on the world in regards to pot and one country, Nepal, held out for the longest time. After they made pot illegal, Nepal has seen crime steadily increase, and an influx of organized crime spreading hardcore addictive drugs. Nepal wishes to go back to the peaceful days...when pot was legal.

The U.S. govt has been trying to convince its citizens that marijuana is bad. In the 30's they tried to convince them that illegal mexicans were using pot and going on murderous sprees. In the 50's it was the communists. They mention health concerns, but studies prove pot is less harmful than alcohol and tobacco on the body and is actually less harmful than the big pharmaceutical company's "legal drugs" at treating illness. Ignorance is bliss and the govt loves it.

Posted by: The Real Truth on Jun 3, 2007 at 05:54 PM
Wow. Tobacco and alcohol are okay to use because the government says so, but marijuana is bad. How many preachers glutton themselves on fried chicken at church dinners? That's kind of harmful too, "truth." Anyone that is intelligent enough to read the facts on marijuana know the reasons that it was made illegal and it involves big oil and the cotton industry. Those who voted to outlaw it did not know that it was the same plant used for hemp. The gov't kept them in the dark, much like many of you. Read independently and you shall see the errors of your ways.

i think it should be legal also. This drug is no comparision to the pain killers that are legal and are killing people all the time in this area..I dont know anyone that ever overdosed on weed..Besides that these pain killers are everywhere in our schools, streets.Bad thing is everyone is snorting them and getting hooked bad and turning into theives to get the pills..I never seen weed do this to anyone and weed is not proven to even be addictive..Any way im sure whoever got the plants will be happy while smoking it..The law what a joke!!

Posted by: mike on Jun 3, 2007 at 06:40 AM
UMMM.....Retarded!!! My doctor prescribes me weed, and I am allowed to grow more plants than this guy has, and I am protected under Prop 215, for medicinal uses. There are 150000 medical marijuana users in California and 13 other states that have a similar program. I smoke medicinally for a herniated L5 disk and a torn ligament in my hip, both of which require surgery. But, with the aid of marijuana, I am able to stand the pain, and have since then opted not to have the surgery, and I don't need the disgusting pain meds that most doctors presribe for my condition, and I can't believe drugs like morphine and oxycontin are legal. "Here you go son, take this legal heroin, but leave that natural herb alone." says the Governor of Kentucky. When are we going to open are eyes and see what we are doing to people. Alcohol use to be illegal and pot use to be legal. So, I want to know who the genious was that reversed those roles. How many people die from alcohol related accidents vs. marijuana related incidents. I have yet to see the episode of COPS, where the officers are called out for a domestic dispute involving POT!! If you are tired of getting arrested for something as trivial as marijuana, then GO TO THE VOTING BOOTHS!!!!!!!VOTE, we can change the laws, we just got to let our voices be heard, and each of us can make a significant difference. Good Luck!

"If you grow it they will come!" Good Job Fellas! For all you hippies who have been trying to quote the bible. Get a life. It also says your body should be respected and you should place nothing harmful in it. I guess those few isolated verses are where you get your justification to be a drug head.

Posted by: mike on Jun 2, 2007 at 11:23 AM
pot should be legal, especially if you grow it to smoke, instead of selling it.it also helps sick people. i know!

The last government study of marijuana ,under the Nixon administration, recommended that marijuana be decriminalized. Our government persists in lying to its citizens. Just like T in Catlettsburg thinks marijuana can permanently diminish your ability to make good choices.

Is Brad related to Justin Timberlake? He's from KY too.

If he was going to do this, he should have moved to Ohio. You can grow up to 100 grams at home and it is only a minor misdemeanor.

Posted by: B. Graham on Jun 1, 2007 at 02:39 PM
Why would God create such a dangerous plant? Our sinful government wrote our Constitution on this plant and made our first American flags from it. I don't understand this "Devil's Weed."

For so the Lord said unto me, "I will take my rest and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs. For afore harvest, when the bud is perfect and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks and take away and cut down the branches." (Isaiah 18:4-5).

God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth.…To you it will be for meat. And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." (Genesis 1:29-31) The Bible predicts some herb's prohibition. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall … speak lies in hypocrisy … commanding to abstain from meats which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth." (1 Timothy 4:1-3)

Now if only they would pay some attention to all the people transporting prescription pain medication from Florida to this area.

I know this boy and I'm a little shocked that he would take a chance like this. I guess the drugs took away his ability to make good choices. It is a shame he has waisted his life on this.
