Fayette County Sheriff Deputies said someone may have set an accused murderer’s house on fire Friday on Stringtown Road as an act of retaliation.

Gary Martin is accused of shooting and killing three men: Carl Blaine Cox, Christopher Lee Legg and Dustin Tyler Hughes on Memorial Day.

Shawn Hull, a neighbor of Martin, said all he could see were big flames shooting over the mountain and the sound of bullets over and over.

The fire came a few days after investigators say Martin shot and killed three men in front of his house last Monday. Investigators said the fire could be related to the shootings.

Investigators don’t want the victim’s loved ones to take the law into their own hands. Instead, they encourage the families to rely on their good memories to make it through this tough time.

Co-workers of one of the victims, Dustin Hughes, said they’re still in shock. Dustin Hughes’ father, Larry Hughes said Dustin was the third child he has lost in five years. His two daughters were killed in car accidents.

Fayette County Sheriff William Laird also said they encourage people to allow the criminal justice to work rather than engaging in acts of retaliation. He also said the person charged with the crimes has been arrested and is currently incarcerated.

Although investigators do not have direct evidence linking to the two crimes at this time, they said there is a high probability the two crimes are indeed related.

Police said the person who set the fire will be charged with first degree arson, which is a felony act.
