NEW YORK (WSAZ) -- Former Army Private Jessica Lynch is still recovering from the wounds she suffered during the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Back in March 2003, the Wirt County native was taken prisoner in Iraq after an ambush on her convoy, but was rescued by U.S. forces on April 1 of the same year.
Monday morning, Lynch talked with the Today Show's Meredith Vieira about her capture, recovery and her future.
Despite it all, Lynch says she has no bitter feelings toward the military that tried to make her a hero.
The now 26-year-old is a junior at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
"Today" named Lynch's story one of the "buzziest stories of the decade."

I am so annoyed by all of the "anti-American" sentiment. Has America made mistakes? Yes. Would we be in the Iraq war if we got a "re-do?" Probably not. But, we live in a great country that provides us freedom and many more opportunities the anywhere in the entire world. Maybe Jessica Lynch's rescue got so much attention because she was the first POW to be rescued since WWII and the first woman ever. Instead of accusing the government for lying, she should thank them for sending soldiers into harms way to rescue her (which they should have done.)Did things get blown out of proportion? Absolutely. But, maybe, just maybe it wasn't as malicious as everyone has tried to make it. It seems that Ms. Lynch has done good things with her "fame" like helping out a fallen soldier's family. So, kudos to her for that. I just wonder, however, if "anti-war" propoganda had not been so popular at the time would she have felt the same way?
I think many of you are misunderstanding her comments. She feels that she was "used" because she received so much attention while so many others who have served our great Nation have recieved no attention. She has repeatedly denied being a "hero" because she has stated there are so many heros in the military that are far more deserving that she believes herself to be. She has repeatedly tried to draw attention to the others serving this country including organizing and setting up charities in other service members names. We, as West Virginians, should be proud of her for her service, her support of other soldiers and her honesty in what happened. There are so many negative comments posted after so many of these articles. Wouldn't it be nice if people tried to be more positive. Think about how nice it would be if people lived by the "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything".
OK wait up! For one she was invited on the show they are doing on 'looking back' she wasn't selling anything but hoping to be a good mother. Now 2-when she said 'they used me' she meant the Bush administration as a way to sell his war! Did ANY of you actually watch the interview or just post stupid comments? She herself has said she was embarrassed about all the attention AND in her book talks about how she IS NOT a HERO-how Mis-portrayed things were by the media and the government. She served her county just as anyone else has---and her best friend died fighting this nonsense war--so get off her case already!
