An Ashland Community and Technical College cosmetology program offers free wigs to those who have lost or are losing their hair.

“The first time I shaved someone's head I waited until they left and then I cried,” cosmetology student Kevin Allen said.

Evelyn Horsley was diagnosed with breast cancer back in April, and because of her treatments she started to lose her hair, which is why she went to Stepping Stones.

Horsley is not alone. Debbie Link, a breast cancer survivor, said it made her feel better about herself because when she started losing her hair it was so traumatic.

“It was really bad, but I came here and I got a wig I can go out to dinner,” Link said.

Ruby Doyle, a b-cells lymphoma survivor, compared these people to angels that God sent with Stepping Stones to help her.

In order for them to keep the doors open, though, they need more wigs, and they are willing to fix them up.

“If it is ugly or you think it is damaged, you know just bring it in we can fix it,” cosmetology student Shalene Messer said, “You know there is nothing we can't fix, we're hair dressers.”

It’s the willingness to care for more than just a wig that is life changing. If you have a wig you would like to donate to Stepping Stones, contact Ashland Community and Technical College.

What a wonderful informational segment to bring to the viewing audience's attention! I am a breast cancer survivor and was so very thankful for any information in dealing with some of the side affects of treatments to help you feel a little normal and not alone. May we all spread the news to help others. A big Thank you to WSAZ, all involved at the college with Stepping Stones, and to Evelyn for her courage and willingness to share a very personal part of cancer. thanks
