CAIRO, W.Va. (AP) - Ritchie County Sheriff Ron Barniak says it was the first drowning at North Bend State Park he can recall in his nearly 30 years in law enforcement.

A Tyler County man had backed his truck into the lake Monday evening to load a fishing boat onto it. The vehicle slid into the lake and became submerged in 10-to-13 feet of water.

The victim, 67-year-old Daniel Fisher of Middlebourne, was trapped and couldn't be freed. His body was pulled out about 20 minutes later by rescue officials.

Barniak says the rescue crew did all it could, but just couldn't get Fisher out in time.
