HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Marshall University plans to add a pharmacy program to meet a growing demand for services in the state.
Marshall's Board of Governors approved the doctorate program Tuesday.
The program would be the third in West Virginia. The existing pharmacy programs are offered by West Virginia University and the University of Charleston.
Marshall's program wouldn't open until the fall of 2012, at the earliest.
Marshall officials estimate it would cost about $427,000 to launch the program.

Dr. Tiano actually graduated from WVU Medical School and did his residency at Marshall. He is accountable for his own poor judgement.

To RPh View...on the contrary, there is no choice but to "pump out" Doctors of pharmacy...that's all that schools offer now. And secondly, close to 2/3 of my pharmacy class (from a school not in WV) chose to enter the retail field. In fact, it is quite a struggle to entertain the idea of pursing pharmacy residencies and hospital jobs to new graduates...the majority just see the money that they will be making in the retail world; this is probably the reason that pharmacy residencies may become mandatory by 2015. There is a pharmacist shortage in all aspects of the pharmacy world, not just retail.

Marshall does not have a Board of Pharmacy. Only the state has a Board of Pharmacy. Marshall has a Board of Governors who have done a wonderful thing by approving a pharmacy school. Do not speak of what you do not know.
