CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Gov. Joe Manchin has lifted the state of emergency for 26 counties in northern West Virginia.
Manchin's order came Tuesday, three days after he declared a state of emergency all 55 counties as a severe winter storm swept across the state.
The storm dumped more than a foot of snow across much of the state and stranded some motorists on the West Virginia Turnpike for hours.
Counties where the state of emergency was lifted include Barbour, Berkeley, Brooke, Doddridge, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Marshall, Mineral and Monongalia counties. Also included are Morgan, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Ritchie, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood counties.

pfft! 911 dispatchers in Cabell County didn't even know there was a State of Emergancy! From talking to the Cab County Office of Emergancy Services - wouldn't have know we were under an emergancy anyway -- the head shaking part is: why cancel it when it was apparent half the people didn't even know we were under it to start with. O and btw-- when all this is happening REMEMBER!!! Those of us without power and need help??? WE CAN'T SEE YOU!!!!
How is someone going to get on the turnpike when they had been told of the snow and then blame the state of West Virginia ...??? Isnt that stupid to do something that you were told not to and then complain??? DOH did an excellent job...when it snows stay off the Turnpike....Good advice.....
Does the news media fact check the governor? What communication tower went down? What was the mode of failure? Could other forms of communications have been used (cell-phones)? Why was such a critical link allowed to fail or not have back-up? WSAZ needs to have a reporter look into these questions. Unless you are giving the governor a free pass and just waiting for him to name a scapegoat.
