CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Recent heavy snowfall has West Virginia's ski resort operators breathing a collective sigh of relief as they begin to see green in the white slopes around them.

Canaan Valley Resort says it is heading into the holiday season with more than 30 slopes and trails open. Snowshoe Mountain Resort will have 45 trails and slopes open as well as other snow-filled attractions.

Other operations like Timberline Four Seasons Resort in Tucker County and Winterplace between Beckley and Princeton plan to have at least 20 slopes open for Christmas weekend.

White Grass cross-country resort in Canaan Valley has more than 50 kilometers of trails open.

West Virginia customarily draws more than 800,000 skier and snowboarder visits annually during its five-month snow season.
