Dear old dad...
There are so many things that can be said about how special a good father is, but when Dad is not able to be there, today of all day's can be difficult.
Working on Father's Day is something Gary Turner is familiar with.
“Last year at this time on Father's Day, I was in a place you wouldn't want to be,” said Turner. “Iraq.”
He is part of the 1257th Transportation Company out of Huntington that was called to serve overseas. And for 14 months, he had to miss out on the things dads and kids love to do.
“Last year, Father's Day was not a good day for me because my dad was gone and I couldn't celebrate father's day,” said Zach, Gary’s son.
“I missed him and I wanted him to come back,” said Bria, Gary’s daughter.
And now, Dad is back, but 14 months was a long time to be gone.
“It's tough because they grew up quite a bit,” said Gary. “They’re bigger and smarter and wiser.”
“He's the best dad I could ever have,” said Bria. “And I don't know what I would do without him.”
“He makes me very proud,” said Zach.
It’s a pride that is not taken for granted.
“Father's Day today, celebrating with you guys just means a little bit more,” said Gary. “And I thank you guys for being patient and waiting on dad and trusting I'd be back and trusting God.”
And it's in moments like this that Gary Turner celebrated his Father's Day.
